Acute Hypoxemia in Rabbits

چکیده
We studied the effect of pulmonary afferent activity on the heart rate response to a progressive, isocapnic decrease in oxygen saturation (Sao2) in anesthetized rabbits. To abolish the effect of rapidly adapting receptors, we used inhaled bupivacaine aerosol, and to abolish the effect of slowly adapting stretch receptor activity, we used sulfur dioxide insufflation. The heart rate (HR) response (AHR/ASao2) under control conditions was 0.39 1.29 beats/min/% (mean + SD,

Age-dependent core temperature responses of conscious rabbits to acute hypoxemia.
Experiments were carried out on chronically instrumented newborn and older rabbits to characterize their core temperature (T(c)) responses to acute hypoxemia and to differentiate "forced" vs. "regulated" thermoregulatory responses. Three age ranges of kits were studied: 4-6, 9-11, and 28-30 days of age. During an experiment, T(c), selected ambient temperature (T(a)), and oxygen consumption were...
متن کاملStreptozotocin Induced Acute Clinical Effectsin Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
Background & Objectives: Streptozotocin (STZ) is used for induction of Type-1 diabetes mellitus in animal models. Its beta-cytotoxic action results in sudden release of insulin leading to severe hypoglycaemia and even mortality. However, its sensitivity varies with species. Present investigation was aimed at studying STZ induced acute clinical effects in rabbits. Methods: Str...
متن کاملExperimentally-induced acute lung injury: the protective effect of hydroxyethyl starch.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of hydroxyethyl starch, (130/0.4) 6%, compared to Ringer's acetate and modified gelatin on hypoxemia, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress in an experimental model of acute lung injury (ALI). The ALI/Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) experimental model was produced by a bronchoalveolar saline lavage. Mature New Zealand whit...
متن کاملEffect of Angiotensin II on Blood Flow in Acute and Chronically Inflamed Knee Joints of Rabbits: The Role of Nitric Oxide
Background: Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) upregulation in stromal cells of joints affected by rheumatoid arthritis may lead to higher tissue angiotensin II that is a vasoconstrictor and mitogen factor. To date, the role of angiotensin II on regulating blood flow in inflamed joints has not been studied. Methods: Acute and chronic joint inflammation was induced in rabbits by intra-articular...
متن کاملAcute Administration of Estradiol Protects against Spinal Ischemic-Reperfusion Injury in Male Rabbits
Introduction: Postoperative neurological deficit is the most devastating complication after thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair. Despite demonstrated neuroprotective effects of estradiol, its protective efficacy against spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion and underlying mechanisms are not yet elucidated. Methods: Two groups, each of 10 New Zealand white male rabbits, were studied. Control g...
